This week, French exchange students from Le Mans have visited St. Philip’s and learnt about life in an English primary school. They have been staying with pupils from St. Monica’s as part of an exchange program. The students have joined in lessons and assisted our children with their French skills during a hugely enjoyable week for all concerned. The following video is an interview held between Year 6 pupils and Pierre Fleurance.
In the Autumn term, pupils from Y2 upwards entered a competition to design a character which Salford City Council could use to promote the importance of Energy Saving. There were some fantastic ideas; well done to all those who entered. Our pupil’s creative minds must have been working well as the following pupils were commended:
1st Prize: Bronwyn Dennis
2nd Prize: Kerys Hurley
3rd Prize: Kate Watson & Niamh Doran
The following photographs include the Major of Salford and Olympic Gold Medal winner, swimmer Chris Crook.
On the 10th March 2010, Class 10 represented St. Philip’s RC in the Salford Schools Dance Association evening held at The Lowry Theatre. Pupils performed their dance ‘Fatal Attraction’ based on a moth’s association with light. The above photos were taken during rehearsal, as photography wasn’t allowed during the actual event. However, all parents, staff and pupils agreed that the children were outstanding and a credit to the school. Several more photographs will follow ASAP.
School Council members have finally been elected by their peers in classes around the school. All members are presented with a prestigious badge which they can wear proudly on their ties. This year, the group will focus on planning ideas for the outdoor area near to the bottom playground as well working towards an Eco-Award. More news will follow as it happens so watch this space…
Over the past few weeks, all the classes at St. Philip’s RC have raised funds for the earthquake victims in Haiti.
Class 9, Year 5, raised a fabulous £80. They had great fun by dressing up, especially one great sport who decided to dress up as a young lady – complete with a fetching handbag! Another member of the class made three delicious, scrumptious and impeccable cakes. People were queuing up at the classroom door to buy a piece! Full details of the fundraising total will follow.
Every year pupils are given the opportunity to campaign for the chance to represent their class on the School Council. Its members meet as a group, led by Miss Roberts, to suggest and discuss potential changes and improvements for St. Philip’s RC. The above video is a demonstration of the ‘election’ process which takes place within each class.
Pupils at St. Philip’s RC love French! Each week, pupils take part in lively, informative French lessons. Recently, all pupils took part in a French and Spanish day, in which they dressed-up, sampled food, watched French and Spanish TV and Films, and even constructed Eiffel Towers. The above video features Year 6 pupils demonstrating their fine conversational skills. Enjoy!
