Well done to all those girls and boys from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 who got up early on Saturday mornings to complete the courses at Buile Hill Park or Bolton Road playing field. St Philip’s are especially proud of the 16 runners who braved the snow, sleet and freezing conditions at Bolton Road on the 9th December. The season has now ended with our Year 3-4 girls’ team narrowly missing out on coming third. Well done to Isla for achieving silver as a year 4 runner! Congratulations to Joseph (Year 6), he has been selected to represent Salford Schools at the Greater Manchester Championships, at Heaton Park on 3rd February 2018.
Last Saturday, the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships, held at Heaton Park, brought an end to this year’s cross country season. Over the last three months, several of our children have demonstrated great spirit and determination by attending cross country races at Buille Hill Park and other locations; to represent St Philip’s in the Salford Cross Country Championships. All the children did extremely well in (at times) extremely harsh conditions, but a special congratulations go to Niall and Isobel, who came in second position overall in Salford and were specially selected to represent Salford at the Greater Manchester Championships. Well done children; we are extremely proud!
The annual Salford Athletics Championships for Year 6 pupils from across the city took place on Tuesday 16th June. The team of pupils who participated displayed exceptional behaviour, attitude and respect towards their competitors; they represented St. Philip’s RC with distinction.
Several pupils from St. Philip’s managed to qualify the finals of their given event. This means that they competed against the very best of under-12 children from across Salford. This is a fantastic achievement!
Two pupils from St. Philip’s, Erin Barton and George Harman were victorious in their event, taking home the gold medal in the long jump and 60 meter sprint respectively. A huge congratulation to these talented athletes!
Can our Year 5 pupils match these wonderful achievements in their event next week?
We are very proud to announce that St. Philip’s has been crowned as champions of five-a-side football in the Prestwich / Whitefield region. The teams participated in games across two evenings, winning all seven of the games which they played. As always, the boys represented the school with dignity and were humble in their victory. Well done!
Last night, pupils from our netball team participated in a netball rally against other schools in the local area. Our team came 2nd in their division – which is an incredibly pleasing result. The girls played amazingly as a team considering that they have had very little practise so far. They played five games; won two, drew two and lost one. Miss Moore and Mrs Bourke were very proud coaches on the side line!
This week our girls’ netball team participated in a rally hosted by St. Monica’s RC High School. Twelve schools competed and our team managed to finish in third place – fantastic! As always, the girls represented St. Philip’s RC with a superb attitude which reflected their excellent manners, respect and all round fair play. Well done!
Saturday saw the culmination of the Salford School’s Cross Country Competition. Children from across KS2 (and some from Y2) participated in five meetings which were held at Buile Hill and Bolton Road Playing Fields,Salford. All the children who took part should be very proud of their efforts and achievements in a very challenging event. Children battled the mud and the cold over 5 Saturday meetings, competing against children from 20 other Salford Primary schools. As a result of their efforts and commitment, there were a number of individual and team successes. Our Y5 boys were crowned Salford champions, whilst our Y4 girls achieved 2nd place overall…a wonderful achievement. On an individual note, a number of children produced some stand-out performances, in particular Isobel, who finished 2nd overall in the Y4 girls competition.
On the 4th and 5th of July our school held the annual dance performance events. Nine classes performed their dances and there were eleven routines in total – hard work in such hot weather! Below is a video featuring Miss Guest’s reception class, who were supported in their performance by a few Year 5 pupils…
Today, 15th July, pupils participated in a sports day event. This is the first time in recent years that such an event has taken place and it was a great success! Pupils enjoyed a variety of activities and participated in teams. Their attitude and sportsmanship were commendable. A fun day was had by all! Photographs from KS1 will folow ASAP…
