How to Save a Life…

On Friday 16th January representatives from the school council and some year 1 children participated in two basic life support sessions delivered by a specialist trainer from the charity ‘Hand on Heart-Funding Defibrillators for schools’.

The sessions included learning how to assess whether a casualty was breathing, placing someone in the recovery position, delivering CPR and how to assess for danger and seek appropriate help. The sessions were very practical and all the children got to practice CPR techniques on some dummies. It will be the children’s responsibility to feedback what they have learnt to their classmates.

‘Hand on Heart’ has funded a defibrillator to be located in school and eight members of staff have received four hours of training on how to use one safely. We are delighted to have this potentially life saving piece of equipment in school. Many thanks to ‘Hand on Heart’ from all the staff and pupils at St Philips.
