Over the holiday period, we lost two valued members of the school and parish community. After a short illness, Fr. Tom Robinson OSM passed away peacefully on 28th December. All our pupils knew Fr. Tom well and were very fond of him. He visited the school each day and rarely missed a school assembly or event. Fr. Tom was a very special person and all the pupils and staff at St. Philip’s will miss him very much. At this sad time, we remember Fr. Tom’s family and the whole Servite community in our thoughts and prayers.

On New Year’s Eve, we were shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Gerry Welch. Gerry taught at St. Philip’s for over 30 years, before retiring in 2001. Gerry regularly visited the school, both as a grandparent and supporter of the school and parish community. Some of Gerry’s former colleagues still work at St. Philip’s, as do some of his former pupils. Gerry was a lovely man and will be greatly missed by us all. Our thoughts at this very difficult time go out to his wife Eleanor, his three children and his grandchildren.

  1. Very sad news indeed.
I was lucky to have worked with
Mr Welch for 12 years. He was a colleague,
friend and neighbour. He taught my son Joe
and came to our house to watch football with
my husband. Father Tom was a good friend too.
I had recently been fortunate enough to work in
The Priory and got to see Father Tom quite a lot.
They will both be greatly missed by the school,
Parish and local community. Frances Butcher

  2. RIP Father Tom, such a wonderful gentle man and his lovely well attended funeral was a testament to this, he will be sorely missed by our family and I’m sure many others x
